Roy Howat, Master-class On French Piano Music

The music of Debussy and Fauré, as performed by themselves and their contemporaries

 As one of the founding editors of the authoritative New Complete Debussy Edition by Durand-Costallat, as an editor for Peter's edition of Fauré's chamber works, and as a highly recognized interpreter of French piano music, Roy Howat brings a uniquely comprehensive perspective to French music. Drawing upon early recordings, including the composers' own, Roy Howat will discuss issues in interpreting the piano music of Debussy and Fauré.

Sunday, August 3, Visit to Piano Solo, a traditional piano restauration atelier

 A visit to the Parisian piano rebuilder Piano Solo will include a detailed presentation by Léo Duroy, piano technician, on the evolution and construction of the instrument, the elements that contribute to the piano's sound quality, and piano recording techniques. In addition to housing contemporary pianos, Piano Solo owns a variety of early Erard and Pleyel fortepianos. Participants will have the opportunity to try these instruments.

Jean-François Antonioli, master-class - open repertoire

Drawing upon his vast experience as both pianist and conductor of the complete Mozart Concerti, Jean-François Antonioli will discuss in detail the pianist's interaction with the orchestra, and cover important interpretive concepts, as well as issues specific to the performer. Mr. Antonioli recommends the use of the Bärenreiter edition for pianists interested in participating in these master-classes.

Jean-Marc Luisada, master-class on the piano music of Chopin

Following his prize-winning participation at the International Chopin Piano Competition in Warsaw, Luisada became closely associated with the music of Chopin, recording many of his works to great acclaim. Luisada will share his insights on this repertoire in two master-classes.
